Vata, Pitta or Kapha - who am I?
For many people interested in Ayurveda, this question is the starting point for booking an appointment in an Ayurveda practice. What importance does Ayurveda actually attach to this topic? Is it even possible to determine the personal constitution in a consultation?
The fact is:
The individual constitution of the person plays a major role in Ayurvedic prevention and therapy.
Prakriti translates as „nature“. It encompasses an individual's physical and mental dispositions and is far more than a simple „typification“.
The Physical constitution (Dehaprakriti) is made up of anatomical-morphological, physiological-functional, pathogenetic and somatopsychological characteristics. All of these characteristics must be questioned and analysed separately in order to obtain a valid result.
The mental constitution (Manasaprakriti) encompasses the state of the three qualities of mind Sattva, Rajas and Tamas as well as all mental functions of perception, sense and action control, analysis, discernment, determination and memory.
A Prakriti is not determined - it will researched!
An in-depth analysis considers all four developmental phases of the constitution from conception through pregnancy, birth and postnatal development to the current state.
Human nature does not manifest itself in a snapshot, but rather in reaction patterns to different stimuli. Constitutional characteristics are characterised differently depending on the stage of life and can change.
Conclusion:
If you are assigned your „type“ after a few minutes of an Ayurveda consultation and this is to serve as the basis for your diet or lifestyle, be vigilant and healthily critical. Ask whether all phases of development have actually been taken into account in the evaluation.
I wish you many insights on your path to the core of your being.
With best wishes for your health,
